List Queries / Re: Confusion over allied generals
October 15, 2022, 09:10:08 PM
Ok,

I read bullet point 4 several times

"Unless specified in the notes, the general must be the same type as the army commander in the main list but cannot be legendary."

Main list in this case refers to the Allies list which makes obvious sense.

Classic case of me over thinking it.

Thanks for clarifying.

List Queries / Re: Confusion over allied generals

By way of example to make sure I have this correct:

If I am creating a Ming Chinese Army with Bamarised Shan Kingdoms Allies:

From the lists:
Ming Chinese Army commander is "Any Professional"
Bamarised Shan Kingdoms is "Any Instinctive"

My choices for Ming Chinese Army commander: Mediocre Professional, Competent Professional, Talented Professional, Legendary Professional

My choices for Bamarised Shan Kingdoms Allied Commander: Mediocre Professional, Competent Professional, Talented Professional (their list is ignored for this purpose)

These choices are independent (ie I can choose Mediocre Professional for the Ming Chinese and Talented Professional for the Bamarised Shan Kingdoms Ally)

Thanks

Or alternatively rename the files to match the list index

Player Discussion / Re: Loose Archer

As a person who is new to both the game and this level of military history, it isn't super clear to me why one group of archers would stand and fight and others wouldn't in the same army, unless the stand and fight type also had melee training or melee equipment of some kind?

My thought would be to add an characteristic to TUGs that would allow them to not hold the line (ie run away or skirmish). I think the reduced mobility of TUGs will still give a skirmishing archer a place in an army. And you could use the characteristic the price out the usefulness of it.

That will work perfectly, and has the added bonus of not having to learn a new ruleset. Thanks for sharing!

Hi all, I am setting up a campaign that has mixed naval and land army elements. I am looking for a a naval ruleset that would fit nicely into the MeG points system. I did some searching and found this free one http://ermtony.pbworks.com/w/page/14871389/De%20Bellis%20Navalibus which is ok as a ruleset, but doesn't really have a point setup.

The more commercial products I looked at seemed pretty old and mostly out of print, and also didn't mention how the points system worked.

Was hoping some of the folks on here may have thoughts or ideas on what might work best to mix in to a MeG campaign.

Thanks,

I had this same confusion. I think it is because the depth of the board isn't spelled out explicitly (that I could find) so it sounds like 9bw forward from the back edge and 6bw from the Center are different measurements even though it is the same measurement.

Player Discussion / Re: Rule book structure comments

Not sure if this is rule book structure feedback per se. But I just spent the last week or so designing about 10 different armies and ultimately selecting 2 of them for a solo game. I am a complete n00b to both MeG and wargaming (play lots of board games however), so I'll give feedback on where I got tripped up/still have questions. I did get clarifications on most things without having to search the internet.

Army creation: I designed about 10 different armies from several different list books (armies that were all active around the randomly chosen year 49CE.) Lots of variation of fighting styles even if some of the lists didn't have a lot of room for creativity. The point system is very well balanced making for all kinds of agonizing decisions, and I think I could just have fun sitting around all day designing armies. The only thing I found confusing was the difference between internal and external allies, a couple of concrete examples at the beginning of the list pdfs would be perfect to clear that up.

Basing system: extraordinarily cool and straight forward, I created my own basing system to fit my office desk and created paper bases of the correct size.

PBS: fun little starter mini game, no points of confusion here the walk through with examples is great.

Charging: the book has quite a few examples which were helpful the cover most of the basic cases. I struggled with combining with moving through friends + the possibility of slowing fire. Also with the timing of moves (charges, counter charges and intercepts). Would love to see an end 2 end example of an entire charge phase like the PBS.

Movement: a fairly meaty topic I feel is well covered by the manual, I am pretty sure a messed up some of the MF movements, and it isn't clear to me if you can just bump into an enemy unit and start combat without a charge, I played it as if that weren't possible, as it seemed wrong.

Melee: this was all pretty well laid out in the manual as well with lots of good examples.

charge/melee/shooting Claims in the QRS: I am pretty sure I missed a bunch of these, largely due to the abbreviation system, which probably should be at the bottom of the QRS. I spent a bunch of the game thinking CL meant close formation instead of charging lancer.

Hopefully that is helpful. I really enjoyed playing with the system.

List Queries / Characteristics in the notes section
March 24, 2022, 07:23:22 PM
Hi All,

Looking at the Eastern Han list and it says "All infantry except tribal auxiliaries may use the Barricades characteristic".

Am I correct in assuming that I can select this criteria, as if it were in the optional characteristic, not that i would get this characteristic at no cost. Trying to understand why it is listed in a separate section.

Thanks,

I'll add a characteristic Idea to try out for Skeletons and Zombies

MINDLESS - Lose one base per turn if out of command

simulating the idea that unless a necromancer is nearby to control them, they disintegrate or disperse

Ok that is what I thought, It seems that the moors don't seems to have much going on in the list (do you like javelins?) so wanted to make sure

Thanks

Hi All,

Was looking to put together Moorish list from early in the CE, and I just want to check to see I am reading something incorrectly.

It seems the only difference in going with the Moorish is that Elephants and Roman Style troops can't be chosen? Or can you choose elephants but have to choose the Upgraded ones?

Thanks,

List Queries / Lists with a single terrian type listed
August 15, 2021, 02:49:48 AM
Hi All,

Been playing around with the Mongol Conquest list, and I noticed that it only has one terrain type listed (Plains). Reading through the PBS rules it seems that section B of the rule book (who chooses the terrain) is no longer relevant if the Mongols are defending. Did I misinterpret something in the Rules, or in this scenario players would just play their worst cards since there is no choice of territory type.

Thanks,
