Hi
First of all, thx for the insertion of the points in the army lists, it makes it a lot easier and adds to more transparency.

However, the allied (non-internal) generals still confuse me.
The lists state for allies "the general must be the same TYPE as the army commander" but I found no further definition of 'type' : does it mean quality grade or professional/instinctive or both?
I presume the first, otherwise 'professional' generals could suddenly change into 'instinctive' or vice versa upon becoming allies.
Also, I don't understand why professional and instinctive allied generals have different costs. Allied generals act 'independent' so commands cards can never be gifted to them, so basically no difference in ability if they are instinctive or professional.  Or am I missing something?
Thx for clarifying my mind,
Happy holidays....

It means they must conform to the type allowed for the army commander - so for example if the AC must be Professional so must an ally picked from that list; if there are any limitations such as "only Competent or Mediocre" those also apply.

Professional generals have a 2BW larger command reach and if killed reappear earlier in the turn sequence. The latter usually makes very little difference but the former can be important and justifies an additional cost IMO.

Thx Nik,
all makes sense now :), didn't realize that 'same type as Army commander in the main list' referred to the army commander of the Allied list and not the 'main' Army list, hence the confusion.

By way of example to make sure I have this correct:

If I am creating a Ming Chinese Army with Bamarised Shan Kingdoms Allies:

From the lists:
Ming Chinese Army commander is "Any Professional"
Bamarised Shan Kingdoms is "Any Instinctive"

My choices for Ming Chinese Army commander: Mediocre Professional, Competent Professional, Talented Professional, Legendary Professional

My choices for Bamarised Shan Kingdoms Allied Commander: Mediocre Professional, Competent Professional, Talented Professional (their list is ignored for this purpose)

These choices are independent (ie I can choose Mediocre Professional for the Ming Chinese and Talented Professional for the Bamarised Shan Kingdoms Ally)

Thanks

Yup.

No the choice of an allied commander is as per the army commander from their list. The main list referred to in the allied contingent notes is the list the contingent is taken from.

Ok,

I read bullet point 4 several times

"Unless specified in the notes, the general must be the same type as the army commander in the main list but cannot be legendary."

Main list in this case refers to the Allies list which makes obvious sense.

Classic case of me over thinking it.

Thanks for clarifying.

Yes correct 100 %  read of the main list the ally comes from not the main list it is allied to .

Hope it helps

Perhaps change the wording to "parent list" or "their own army's  list".
