1 Do troops still have to be in two ranks to claim shieldwall. This requirement seems to have disappeared from the characteristics sheet

2. Do Sugs disappear if any base goes off any table edge? The rules say no but the QRS says yes.

Then one assumes you don't have to be in 2 ranks. As it has been removed from 2 places I think it unlikely that it is an accidental deletion.

Quote2. Do Sugs disappear if any base goes off any table edge? The rules say no but the QRS says yes.

Thought the rules say that a SUG reaching your own rear edge in a runaway or skirmish are removed. Other edges they turn/wheel to move along the edge like all UGs do.

Nik, on point one re shieldwall I tend to agree although I do not remember this being discussed or included as a change hence my question.
Turning to the second point re SUGs, it is clear in the rules that they only come off the rear edge but the QRS contradicts this. In a recent post Simon said the QRS should take precedence over the rules. again as I cannot remember this being discussed I just wanted to check that the change in the QRS was not made in error. To me if correct, it makes skirmishers in the flank area very easy to chase or indeed push off the table.

nikgaukroger

Hadn't checked the QRS - see what you mean.

Actually, looking the 2018 QRS said the same  ??? ???

This came up recently (the shield wall question) but not sure it was on this forum or the old one. IIRC You needed to be in 2 ranks to stop the mounted melee expert claim but one rank was enough to stop shatter/shove effects. The 2ranks v mounted melee expert is on the qrs against the mounted melee expert claim and I think it is also in the characteristics 2019 document as well.

2019 QRS takes precedence ... unless Author anounce a change / Bug Fix on this . Right ?  ;)

shieldwall one deep is enough for shieldwall effect
shieldwall two deep is required for some combat claims

UGs do not disperse or take KaB tests if hitting a side edge

badhabum

QuoteUGs do not disperse or take KaB tests if hitting a side edge

QRS states : SUGs that even partially go off any table edge are lost.

QRS takes precedence .

So they are lost. :)

marshalney2000

Looks like a few agreeing to disagree.

This is correct.

It is also what it was in 2018 per its QRS (even if it wasn't played that way).

If its a bug Si needs to officially correct, if it isn't ...  :o

That is a big issue then, as it's a significant change that is not mentioned in clarifications and therefore looks like an error.
I have emailed Simon to ask him to look it over.

nikgaukroger

I suspect a bug as well  :-[

Si is having difficulties getting online, but here is his reply

QuoteShieldwall cancellation deliberately set at 1 deep – not accidental.

On SuGS QRS doens't contradict rules.  It says IF they go of the table edge.
Rule defines when and where they can.  Essentially rear edge unless a flank march.

Si

It says:

"SUGS that even partially go off any table edge are lost"

My emphasis.

Si's message is clear what he wants to happen, alas I fear he is wrong about the QRS wording  :(
"The Roman Empire was not murdered and nor did it die a natural death; it accidentally committed suicide."

marshalney2000

Yes there is definitely a conflict between rules and QRS.
