So why do they have a 'dismounted' characteristic if they are only classed as 'infantry' and cannot 'remount'. Can the infantry start as cavalry???
#2
Looked at that, but the infantry cannot 'remount'  and as such can you explain how this characteristic works when the infantry already start dismounted

In the Laidang list the Huscarls have a 'dismountable' optional characteristic.....but they are not cavalry, only infantry.... am I missing something?

Hi Robin.
Thanks for the heads up..but this is for a project I have been working on for a while, trying to reflect a crusader army with a knights templar contingent. Its not for fire and ice.
The wording is a little unclear as the option to have mixed units is a seperate 'catagory' within the army list, and I am trying to understand if you can have both the 'mixed' spearmen/crossbowmen along with a unit of 'normal' spearmen,  in my army

I am trying to create a "templar" Crusader Army from this list.
My confusion is regards the Spearmen/crossbow units and "spearmen" units in the same list

Spearmen/crossbow units are listed as "Any or All"

Does that mean if I take this option you can can ONLY have have these mixed units on their own.... or can you have these mixed units AND spearmen units  in the SAME list

ie    3 X 8 units (4 bases spearmen with 4 bases Xbow)  AND  1 X 8 Bases of spearmen = 20 bases Spearmen

I have a friendly skirmisher sug a nats wiily  away and diectly in front of an enemy Infantry TUG

Question; in the movement phase can an Infantry TUG which is fully directly behind and touching the rear of that SUG, move through that sug as a normal move displacing the sug to its rear, ending a nats willy away from the aforesaid enemy TUG

Basically swopping the positions of the friendly SUG with the Friendly Infantry TUG

If so, does this cause a KAB to friendly unit/s

ummmm....ok, mayhaps in reality, a unit with a reasonable sized shield and fights in close formation could use it as a Shieldwall.
but as regards a game convention and lack of evidence as to how the minoans actually fought, I accept the argument agaist claiming pavise or shielwall.

I await further archeological evidence..

Thankyou for your replies, but I still question this.
The Large shield was carried by the spearmen.. Archers operated from between the ranks of the spearmen seeking protection of the shields.
the spearmen were in close formation and the shields would have operated as ashield wall.

I am looking at building this army.
They carried a large shield that covered the whole body. And were used as a shild wall from which the archers could gain cover from. Also through which they could use their spears

My question is, the spearmen are only given 'shield cover'.....is there any evidence for or against why this classification should not be 'shieldwall' or even 'pavise' as this seems to be a more accurate description of their use

In the rules regarding 'shildwall' it states that "It CANNOT be claimed by TUG's that have done a charge.....

It may be somantics, but;

1) Does this  ONLY occur in the charge PHASE, in that 'shieldwall' can be reclaimed in the melee phase.
2) If the TUG remains in combat until the following melee turn, does it regain its shild wall as it has not "done a charge"
3) If the TUG destroys its opponant  in the melee phase, at what point does it regain its shildwall

cheers

A situation occured during a PACTO game.
My 2 base cavalry unit charged a flexible TUG cavalry unit that was in 'skirmish' formation.

This flexible TUG 'Skirmish' unit ran away but ended up hitting his rear table edge, my charging cavalry unit, managed to catch them, charging this unit in the rear ?.

1) Is that flexible unit classed as a TUG or a SUG whilst being in 'skirmish' formation when hitting its own rear table edge ?.
2) If in 'skirmish' formation what happens when contacted, is it classed as a SUG, and immedeatly destroyed, or is it classed as a TUG ?.
3) What happens ?

A situation occured during my last game.

My Legendary Instintive General (CinC) who is 'in combat' wishes to send a command to another TUG (Not of his command) that is out of sight  (LOS blocked by trees) in order to get that TUG to move forwards . The commander of that TUG's command is awaiting to come onto the board at the end of the movement phase (Had prior been 'killed')

1) Can the CinC do this ?
2) Does line of sight inhibit the sending of a commad ?
3) How many and of what colour command cards are required, bearing in mind the CinC is in comabt ?

Any help chaps ?

Cannot seem to find the "old Saxon" (From 772 to 804 CE) list for Charlemagne Carolingian Allies.  Any guidance where to find this ?
