Is the date for Malcolm's Spartans right? I couldn't make the allies match up. Is it by any chance the same as mine (Battle of Plataea) with the same allies?

Magna / Re: Magna deployment zones and terrain movement
January 08, 2026, 06:11:12 PM
Thanks Richard. Speed of reply appreciated as always  :)

Maybe worth an eratta/interp because it only mentions the flank sector in the context of terrain and not the 5BW for deployment of skirmishers only.

PS So it goes down to can move terrain 4BW and "deploy skirmishers only" in the 3.5 BW of the flank (so essentially one SUG wide)

Magna / Magna deployment zones and terrain movement

A question came up at the club recently. I think I know the answer but wanted to check:-

In Magna the terrain and table sizes are reduced compared to Maximus. Are other sizes reduced? Specifically the 5BW flank sector that only SUGs can deploy in and also the 6BW for moving terrain your opponent has placed?

Presumably this means that the 2025 rules and lists will continue to be supported in 2026. Would they still be the "public face" of Meg?  Meaning they would be the starting point for new players, be prominent on the website and so on. Might be worth having a statement on the front page of the site about  that?

Magna / Re: 2026 Magna lists

Thanks Richard. Wasn't hassling (I hope) just trying to get my head round how to manage the transition to the amendments while introducing new players to Meg.

Magna / 2026 Magna lists
October 28, 2025, 11:15:55 AM
Hi

Our club is thinking of using Magna games (a little League probably) to get members into Meg. Running over December into next year. I didn't see any Magna lists for 2026 on the One drive. Should we use the 2025 lists and Builder for Magna, even next year?

That was what I thought. REG lists chose not to use that mechanism and are consequently much longer with many lines that differ by only a morale or shooting grade. Imagine that over the 600+ MEG lists!

List Queries / Re: Later Crusader command

Thanks Richard and Nik. I was thinking of this list for Ribble, so I assume I can use this clarry for the 2025 list?

List Queries / Later Crusader command
September 20, 2025, 09:52:22 AM
Hi

In the Later Crusader (5117) list a note for the Military Orders says Order sub generals "..can command other troops as well as their own military order contingent". Maybe I'm overthinking this but I came up with three interpretations of this. Which is right?

a) You can put troops from the main list in the Order general's command but must specify them in your army builder list

b) you can put troops from the main list under an Order general at the time you place generals as with any other troops

c) doesn't mean anything special, just a reminder that professional generals can command troops outside their own command by playing two cards

A Spear armed Tug fighting in Melee against a non-ME foot Tug gets +1 if in two ranks and +1 if in one rank. Does this mean you can take the second rank base and move it to another file (eg overlap) because it is not contributing to the fight?

Player Discussion / Re: Catafract classification

Ahh, I thought you were advocating adding DC to the Eastern types. But you were thinking removing it from the Western types. That is a very different kettle of fish in terms of game play balance. The only time I've used the non-DC cataphracts (with the Di at Ice and Fire) they weren't very impressive ... though of course that could well be due to Operator Error  ;)

Player Discussion / Re: Catafract classification

I thought the idea behind the difference was that Western style cataphracts usually had solid targets so were hard chargers while Eastern ones faced horse archer opponents so were likely not to be impetuous because it would just get them into trouble. Or is that just a wargaming post-hoc rationalisation?

TOIL, surely?

Sorry, I missed you saying that, apologies. Must say that feels like the more sensible conclusion

The only bit of the original question that hasn't been answered (I think) is whether generals can do a half base shift to align into position. The text for half base shift says "all moves" rather than "all moving UGs" (or similar words). So I think that Generals can do that shift - which would often slightly extend their movement range when joining an UG.

Colour me surprised! (I would have seen that as very cheese-y if someone had done that to me)
