The 2020 List Sets are now available https://mortem-et-gloriam.co.uk/meg/army-lists/.  The 2020 list sets need to be used with the latest army builder (also on the new website).

The purpose of army lists is to constrain choices and ensure the game is historical (in as far as it can be) and not fantasy.  We have worked really hard to incorporate the latest research, improve the range of armies that are competitive and ensure each army has an appropriate "feel" in how it should be used.  We have also tried to ensure we don't "muck up" existing armies as we know many of you do invest a lot of time in your armies. We also did a lot of spell checking of the notes.

Many thanks to Nik Gaukroger, Lance Flint and Peter Cross in particular for their help with the latest set of revisions. Any remaining errors are my fault.

I hope this will be the last substantive set of changes for some years.  Do please keep your constructive comments and suggestions coming in. Also remember if you are playing scenario games then there is nothing wrong in using different interpretations that may be more appropriate for your scenario.

For anyone wanting to learn more about ancient and medieval military history I would recommend joining the Society of Ancients. The Society which has been going since 1966 publishes a magazine, Slingshot, 6 times a year.

Remember, have fun!

Addendum from Simon.
It is a simply incredible piece fo work from the team umatched in the history of army lists!
a) Of course not every one of the changes in 650 lists will appeal to all 1000 players.  Please bear that in mind as you look a your past lists.
b)Remember you can cut and paste from 2019 into 2020 army builder so easy to do so. It is really interesting to see before and after print pages as images.
c) It would require a miracle to have less than 20 errors in 650 documents like this.  Help us find them and we will calmly fix with errata, and reissue on Jan 1 2020 with them corrected.  Many eyes will see more than 5.
d) As said before we will fix errors but everything else now done.  Onwards and upwards! 8)

Hy,

Thank you for all the work.

I just began reviewing my prefered armies and I already got a question .

The  Byzantine armies may use "feigned flight" . But here is the question : which units may use it as the only comment is that they may use it ? so do we choose any unit ? it does not seem correct as how to explain it for lancers ?

Or is it explained in the characteristic sheet ?

Thank Yoy Nik.

Next : Biblical Later Sargonid Assyrian . the 4 horses 4 crew chariots are Charge Only, Bow and with an optional shoot and charge . It seems a mistaketo me . Either they are experiencd bow with whoot and charge in option or just bow, charge only . Or did I miss something ?

By the way the link has already been sent to all belgian players and some french

Simon Meg-Meister

Great stuff.
Lets see if we can get IWC over 40!

Can't comment if they are or not on specifics.
We may of course have the odd errata to pick up.
There are 650 lists after all. It would be a miracle to have non.

Yes - you don't need Shoot and Charge if you are Charge Only.  Prize for spotting the first mistake in the lists.  The Shoot & Charge shouldn't be there!

Can I claim second prize? Later Thematic Byzantines have Southern Slav allies but the Slav list finishes at 896 CE and the Later Byzantine doesn't start till 930 CE

Okay...

A really minor one in an attempt to get 3rd place.

Vijayanagar - the upgrade to the muslim trained cavalry mentiones "caavalry" . Told you it was minor :P

Thankyou for the effort putting together the lists.

Breton List,

The Feigned Flight charactaristic is listed in the changes but not actually include in the optional charactaristics in the army list.
