Characteristic Sheet 2019 states in 22. KIEL

bases fight to flank as if they were turned to face, but 1 rank deep

do they additionally fight to front in the file?

Same system as usual - that's a choice on where they want to roll the dice.
Fight back directly or act as ranks for those to the front and just "block".
