Turning 90-180 with mixed units

Hello,

When turning 90° or 180° with a mixed unit with different bases in first and second rank, what happens?

For example, say a 2-wide 2-deep TUG of crusader knights with first rank FArm and second rank Protected.

• If turning 90, we end up with a 2-wide 2-deep that is:

• 1 file completely FArm and 1 file completely Protected
• front rank completely FArm and second rank fully Protected

• If turning 180, we end up with a 2-wide 2-deep that is:

• front rank FArm and second rank fully Protected
• front rank fully Protected and second rank fully FArm

I found the answer ( I think ) pg 47 PDF  10 about M9 read 10.3 The UG mays also redress ranks

it seems that using M10 or M11 ( turning and move ) does not allow a redress ranks so ranks will be mixed up

Suspect that is an accidental omission and they can redress ranks.

Actually I don't think it omits it as the description of M10 and M11 adds information to the turn as described by M9 so does not repeat the mechanism on how to turn as that is already covered. (whether it would benefit from repetition is another thing)

If so I would remind people of what you write is not what people understand.

M9 is explained in reference 10

M10 is explaine din reference 11

M11 is explained in reference 12

The capacity to redress ranks is only specified as reference 10.3 , not in 11, not in 12. My point is it should be repeated as , as written now I cannot make a link between 10,11 and 12 ...as it is about 3 different moves , 3 different cases

You read it with the knowledge that it should be able to redress ranks but if I read it without the knoweledge, redress ranks as written now is only available to M9 and as explained in reference 10 as not mentionned later .

May I suggest an errata which could at the same time explain how generals may join files  That would solve many future discussions with people who ask where is it written

Thank you Nik, Jacques and Jilu for the collective brainpower!

I concur with Jacques that a game aiming at worldwide audience (and clientele) cannot afford to rely on interpretation and, to answer your question Nik, the rule would IMO benefit more from repetition than the texte would be made heavier by it.

Keep it simple, keep it written?
