Biblical army

As mentioned elsewhere a biblical period army may be on the cards in 2019.

Wondering if people think any of the pre-chariot period (i.e. middle Bronze Age and earlier) armies may be viable in a wider pool?

They have the quality of quantity. I've played Nubians , Libyans & Sea Peoples a fair bit. There are 2 innate problems ... the propensity for unprotected mainline troops and lots of close order bow. The Nubians for instance the VIPs are always the 30 odd protected foot, who are just the 'stodgy centre' while you whittle away at the flanks. There is also the build where you make it really hard for your opponent to break you... ie lots of SuGs  with a backline of stodgy stuff again. This is not great with the current scoring mechanism.

I use them primarily because I like them , and am not too worried about winning. But they are frustrating to play with ... and against given the amount of 'hoovering' you have to do.

There is probably something playable in the Sumerian list with the Longspear , shield cover types ...

Something Sumerian/Akkadian could well be a possibility.

Does anyone do them in 15mm with separate shield bearers as opposed to spearmen with the hefty shields? (as the latter does not really match the Steleof the Vultures depiction)

The new museum ones have some unshielded ones. I don't know if the main shield are 'cast on'

Looks quite a nice figure, but they don't do ones who are just shield bearers

James did very well last year with Hittite and Libyan and the rule changes have improved biblicals.
I think the Assyrians, Hittites or Egyptians can certainly hold their own against anything of played well.
And remember that the PBS may let them hold on to some nice terrain for them.
I am basing up my NKE and Assyrians at present for use in 2019.

With the points tweaks we have made I think the periods of history are in pretty close balance.
Not by fudging earlier stuff being as good base for base, but quantity has more value in MeG than most rules.

Give them a go an report back.

I suspect Hammy's Libyans like the Hittites, Egyptians, etc. were of a Late Bronze Age, or even Iron Age, date - I'm musing about earlier i.e the Middle or even Early Bronze Age, basically pre-chariot.

If Hammy army was anything to go by if you drop the chariots it will be a whopper for sure.
Quite daunting to face.  Visions of starship troopers ancients style ...
