Claiming +2 for side edge in melee

Hi,

Can you claim the +2 (lesser claim) in melee if opponent hasn't turned to face when the charge did not count as a flank charge, but contacted on the side edge of a base please?

Ian N. Has kindly done some research with thoughts that to be able to apply the +2 in melee the +4 needs to be valid in the charge.

If the contact counts as frontal in the charge you cannot turn onto the flank and claim the +2 for the Fighting phase.
