Hi All,

Eagerly awaiting the new rule book.

Planning new armies for first foray!

Quick question on basing:  is it okay to use multiple depth bases, e.g. 40 x 40 for Hoplites or Phalangites rather than two 40 x 20?  I'd still do some "change bases" for casualty removal though.  My thought was the multi bases could look better and be faster to move.  I just wanted to check this would not cause any in game issues though?

Cheers!

Should be no problem at all - I've played against armies where there have been double bases and there were no issues.

Half of my pikes and hoplites are double baed for ease of use.
We play here often with impetus bases - counting a massive base as 2BW and 2 deep and just adding up the wounds until removed.

Hi, I am also keen to give these rules a try when they get released by PSC.

My question also relates to basing.  My current 15mm armies are based up for DBA/DBM etc.  Is this basing compatible with these rules?

Thanks

Paul

Hi Paul,

DBA/DBM basing is completely compatible with these rules.  Many players came from a DBA/BDM background (myself included).

Well I might as well jump in too:

I sold off almost all my 15mm ancients a while ago due to girlfiend* pressure so I am pretty much starting from scratch with a couple of pacto armies. One thing I never liked about DBX basing was the 15mm deep bases for close order infantry. Does MeG use 15mm deep bases and does depth matter much? Given a choice i would prefer to keep base depths to 20mm minimum and base chariots and war wagons on 50mm deep bases. Any advice gratefully received.

*yes it is spelled correctly.

For 15mm figs the recommended base depth for infantry is 20mm you'll be glad to hear  :)

Chariots, etc. have a 40mm recommended depth, however, in reality depth does not matter that much though so going with 50mm will be OK - the downside is that it gives a longer flank edge for the opponent to aim at (but realistically that isn't much of an issue) and if skirmishing you reach your table edge a bit quicker  :o

Thanks, that is good to hear. I don't have any chariots or war wagons yet so I will think about that when I inevitable make another Ancient British or Hussite army. It did seem that most pictures show a 20mm base but I couldn't be sure.

Thanks, looking forward to getting back into the ancient world.

Keep a few simple bases if only for losses or when you conform or expand ...might be interesting ... 8)
