I have some to compare and the detail on the plastic seems better than you can get with metal.
Which is great.  WE just have to watch for any mould lines.  These seem pretty good.

I've painted some plastic Goth cavalry samples, trying three different techniques:
no undercoat
black enamel undercoat (my preferred option)
black acrylic undercoat.
They all seem the same "paintability" which is great. My main concern is the bendy spears and uneven, quite thick, bases.

Good to hear.
I tried some with no undercoat at worked really well..

The thick bases have been fixed. 
The body spears seem pretty good on mine.
Enough flex not to break and enough stiffness not to need to much.
If you try tone tt heaping off I am sure you can.
But with normal use feels better than metal.
Most of my metal spears with soft metal need touching. up after a while.
