Think I was playing this wrong vs Steve.
Engaged Keil frontally, then hit the back with cavalry.
The rear rank can turn to face, but what of ranks 3 (and 2), can they be reassigned to fight the threat to the rear if already fighting the front?
We played yes, but something is niggling at my spider senses.

MF2

"Turn any or all bases with enemy in frontal contact with their flank or rear to face enemy"

so a base must have enemy in contact with it in order to be able to turn IMHO

Rino

For the second question: turning the 3rd rank to face the rear charge.
MF1 is allowing Unengaged base, the 3rd rank is considered engaged since it give a +1 to the front fight.
You can't turn them.

Heard of rules but tend to treat them as a loose guide rather than scripture
