charge oddity or possibly as intended

from this afternoon...

Blue 4 of cav (now facing 7 O clock) have moved across the front of the  5 of Cav (facing 2 Oclock ish), avoiding the zone of control until wheeling at the corner of the 5, ready to charge the rear of the infantry facing 10 O clock

As the blues have the initiative, there is nothing the (exceptional!) cav can do to stop the 4 hitting the rear of the infantry...too close to intercept etc.

Is this as intended?  Does anything in the new wording about flank/rear charges help? (straws, clutching etc)

(they got away with it in the end as the 2 black dice from the persians slowed the blues enough to prevent them hitting the immortals)

The palliass of the infantry is fair game then.

The question is not really are the infantry in trouble, but more... should the infantry be in trouble

Once you reach this situation, then no.   Clearly, for the player with the 5 cavalry, it is how to avoid ending up in this situation in the first place.  This is the skill involved in the command and control system, whether I move first to pin you or you move first and I can react to it.

Seems fine to me.

Do you mean Blue has initiative next move .... or the 5 cav would simply charge them.

Otherwise the 5 Cav TuG has made a move without thinking enough about protecting the rear of the immortals.

Yes the blue cav had initiative in the next turn and so could charge before the 5 (Exceptional) cavalry ;D

no problem, it just looked a bit odd

my mistake was that the zoc does not prevent the blue cav from riding along the front of the line, then wheeling on the corner. I just assumed plonking a line of cavalry in between the two would do the job.

To be fair to me...it was a 10 BW journey for the blue cav to catch the immortals, which is a hell of a long way and very easy to misestimate on the other side of the table.   Twice.
