Charging SuG - evade?

If a SuG declares a charge, but then later in the sequence of charge declarations is itself charged, can it declare it wishes to evade (run/skirmish) ?

I do not see anywhere in the book where this is covered.

Good question.    I think SUG must try to charge no evade Opportunity

"SUGs charged by TUGs must run away unless..."


I would have expected to see an exception there if not allowed to run but there is no exception listed.

There was a big debate about this on a previous forum and as Inrecall it was a matter of charger beware. If they charged then they could not abort it and evade.

I have the same memory abt that thread.
It had to do with the order of the action in the phase as well.
The outcome was once you declare a charge no matter what you charge.
Should someone have the clarie that was concluding the thread pls share

Yes - it was queried on the forum.

It does depend upon sequence.  If it has already charged then it can't evade and if contacted by a TuG is lost.  If it hasn't charged then it can evade.

I think we also explored the situation further in that if the charging SUG was intercepted or countercharged  then it had to go through with the charge and subsequent destruction.

An intercept or countercharge doesn't cancel the charge.  Charging SuGs stop 1BW short of TuGs (unless the TuG is within 1 skull of breaking - the "finishing off" move) and this would include intercepts or counterchargers.

It's in the clarries:

CHARGING SUGs THAT WOULD HIT TuGs
It is not intended that SuGs charge TuGs except when a TuG is near breaking. When a SuG charges another SuG, and after opponents Run Away/Skirmish the charger would reach an enemy TuG, then it stops 1BW from it unless the TuG is within 1 base of breaking.

SuGs that have declared a charge hit by TuGs
Charging SuGs or Flexible TuGs in skirmish order that have declared a charge cannot  run away or skirmish. If contacted by a TuG during the charge phase in open terrain a SuG is automatically destroyed, flexible TuGs fight in skirmish order.

Good spot! thanks. Now to add to my rule book so I don't ask again in six months.

I think Jan timing is perfect now as one or two little issues coming up as the comp pros spot little cracks in wording or rules.
Sweeping up gradually.  Once I can type properly - 6 more weeks of hand splints - I can tuck un and get it sorted.
