"I am delighted to announce that we will be publishing vs 2.0 of Mortem et Gloriam with Helion Publishing  & Company.  The likelihood is that the rules will be available for the 2028 season.  Check out the Helion website https://www.helion.co.uk  where you will see they have already expanded out of their traditional renaissance period with titles such as War of the Three Kingdoms (189-238CE) and a great looking one on the Khmer on its way.

Over recent years MeG has evolved in a very positive way and I feel we are in a very good pace to lock them down for 10 years of enjoyable gaming. With that solidity in place we will be aiming to grow the playing community. Helion's ability to distribute worldwide and their attendance at shows will give the game presence.

In addition to the rulebook, we will have a Great Armies of The Ancient World book which will have 16-20 pairings of armies with some history and ready-made armies to play.  New and casual players can use this to pick and play without needing to use the army lists at all.  The full army lists remain online and free to all – and at 650 armies stands as the best researched set of army lists ever – the "Listipedia" for the ancient world thanks to the hard work and enthusiasm, in particular, of Richard Jeffrey-Cook and Nik Gaukroger.

I look forward to working with Helion to extend our relationship beyond the already successful Renatio et Gloriam collaboration, and given the range of history they are now covering perhaps even more ...

'Working with the CCC Games team has been a tremendously positive experience and we at Helion are looking forward to producing the new edition of Mortem et Gloriam.'

First can I thank you all for your enthusiasm over the last 3 years while I have been disabled to varying degrees. I am now 90% recovered from the electrocution and all that followed, and I am really enjoying my wargaming again. 😊. A special thanks t RJC and Nik who have been amazing.

For some time I have been thinking about where to take MeG and the community. I want to gather input personally from all the playing communities around the world and to that end will organise a Zoom meeting in July for each community and invite any and all to join.  The purpose of those will be threefold: 1) get ideas on what you would like to see changed, 2) discuss how we can best build the community and 3) discuss specifics proposed for the future.  You will not need to have zoom.  Just a link to click on.  An open invite to chat.

The objective at this stage is to lock down the rules for the next 10 years.  Over recent years we have had a very positive evolution of rules and lists that have been well received in the main. But I know many of you want stability. I feel we are  at the stage of learning about the game where we can do a vs2 that locks the rules down, puts in all improvements in one go, and simplifies the rules and their presentation to better attract new players.

In headline terms this is the plan for you all to ponder prior to Zoom sessions:

1. Helion will publish a vs2 book and a single army book as above.   That gets MeG at all the shows and they distribute trade to places all over the world so we can get stock into shops in Europe, USA etc. through them. They will also stock play bags sets with cards, discs and dice.

2. Simplify the packaging of the rules into a easier access form.  We have a few ideas on this to kick around.

3. Add a final layer of richness to troop character and variety. Most 2026 competition amendments – done as a precursor to this – have gone down well. They add richness to troop character – e.g. the four spear lengths now work really well. Hoplites now feel spot on to me. With a few other ideas we have the interactions and system are about as good as they can ever get.  We will separately publish the full set of proposed vs2 amendments in the forum for you all to look at and test out. Also we are going to do a podcast working through them for you all to listen to.  In testing so far here they make the game simpler and slicker, and improve troop character still further.

The army builder will be set up for 5000, 7500, and 10,000 points with generals costs reduced approraitely.  We have been playing around here and find that the Maximus rules work fine for all three of those – so we have our smaller game without different rules while having Pacto and Megan as is for those playing them.  We recently ran a 3 game one-dayer at 8000 and it worked well.  More options and variety.

The end result will be that the rules are then locked with Helion in hard print and we can enjoy playing them while working on other rulesets. I will be considering the MeG development journey complete at that stage and will, be focusing development time on WW2 and Napoleonics (which Helion are also interested in publishing so all CCC system games end up there).

I hope that sets enough context for you all and look forward to discussing with some of you online at Zoom (BTW you don't need to have Zoom – just a computer, phone etc.) or at events like Helvetica.
