Thanks for all the good feedback on the proposed amendments.  From this we are looking at making the following tweaks:

1. Reduce the points cost for Spear by 5 points.  The army builder and lists for 2026 have been updated to reflect this.

2. Terrain table.  Add in "Brush" -  Rough going. Treat as good going for elephants.  Provides cover for skirmishing infantry.  This offers another choice, terrain that is good for skirmishing infantry. This will be updated within the next 48 hours.

3. Tweak to maximum movement distance for elephants in difficult going from 2BW to 3BW.  Theory is that they shouldn't move slower than loose infantry.  They still are affected by difficult going - so no change there. This will be updated within the next 48 hours.

4. Scythed Chariots. Tweak the restriction so that only friendly UGs further to the enemy rear edge within 10BW would trigger the withdrawal of the chariots.  This would make it feasible to advance one flank and hold the chariots back on the opposite flank (as per Chaeronea).  This will be updated within 48 hours.

5. Add Sling to Loose/Close shooters causing an S=Wound effect.

I am looking again at the Medieval men-at-arms change.  Men-at-arms will keep their melee expert.  Shieldwall may become an optional characteristic.

Just a reminder, we aim to formally publish the proposed amendments before skullrollers (next month) so that they are available in plenty of time for 2026 tournaments if they wish to adopt them.  Ice and Fire may keep the 2025 rules (to be determined I believe), so Beachhead might be the first competition to use the amendments.

I note that in list 5610 it says "Note: Knights dismount as Formed Close, Fully Armoured, 2-H Cut & Crush of the same quality." (even if they have melee expert when mounted).

What is the reasoning for making them worse than "Medieval men-at-arms" and how do you decide who is "knights" and who is "medieval men at arms"?

Wait for the draft lists.  I hope to have them available next week.

I have decided not to make any changes to men-at-arms with the 2026 amendments.

I would actually like to change 2-H Cut-Crush claims with the aim of making dismounted men-at-arms resistant to mounted charges (as they appear to have been historically - a tactic for outnumbered knights was actually to dismount).  This will clearly need more testing and convincing than is possible currently.

This would be good to consider for Chinese armies as well, since the 2-handed chopping weapons seemed to be frequently referred to being employed for anti-cavalry duties.

If any changes were made to 2HCC in the future I'm sure they would apply to all troops using it.
