You must have unlucky not to kill the tibetan shaman ! An average unprotected base that must be to the front  . Once dead the whole unit looses the fanatic characteristic  8)

He must have bee protected by some very powerfull magic

mad lemmey

He didn't have a Tibetan shaman in that game, he did in the rematch though...

OK Well the shaman is mandatory if he wants the unit to be fanatic . It must be to the front and if the base dies, the unit looses the fanatic characteristic  8)

Badhabum is correct. It is in the unit notes at the bottom. If the unit wants to be fanatic, it has to take the fanatic exorcist and he has to be in the front rank. This element activates the fanatic characteristic (paid for by every element in the unit) without needing the general to go to the unit. If the fanatic exorcist element is killed, the unit loses the ability to activate the fanatic characteristic.

Kill the fanatic, the general wanders over and takes his place...
What the fanatic is far more useful for is making the unit Devastating charge, with short spears = +3, which killed my superior long spears with general in one turn, (fanatic green vs white, kills, kills general, causes KaBs, which kills a base, , which takes out a back rank spear, causes shatter, neighbours either side suddenly go red vs white, rolls more skulls, eliminates 1500 points of troops in a phase!)
Good thing the supporting average long spears held, were out of kab range and killed him next charge! Dashed nasty bunch.

nope - If garrison spearmen are given the fanatic characteristic, 1 element must be upgraded to the fanatic exorcist. This element must be placed in the front rank. The unit does not require a general to accompany the unit. The fanatic characteristic is lost if the element is killed.

Useful to know, he didn't last long though, nor did his unit...

It seems to me it gives only the fanatic characteristic, not devastating charger for all  bases

Agreed - the special rule says nothing about making the other bases in the unit Dev Chargers.

Also being a single rank of DC it won't get the DC claims IIRC.
