A feature (concern?) with the MeG rules that is sometimes expressed is that there is not a significant enough difference between formed and drilled troops.

A potential rule change to perhaps partially correct this would be that the second move in a double move by formed troops would have to be directly ahead.  They could still do a GREEN action as the first part of the double move.

Currently for tribal troops, both moves in a double move have to be directly ahead (all other actions in the movement phase requiring a Yellow or Red).
The only difference between formed and drilled troops with a double move at the moment is that drilled can turn 90 or 180 on the spot as part of a double move.
There is nothing official about this, just floating the idea at the moment.

Princeps

Drilled troops can also Full Ahead and Shift as part of double move.

Personnally I find the difference is already felt with other advantages : easier to hold charges and pursuits, less need of Yellows. So not an issue IMO.

I like this idea as I am of the view that there is not enough difference between Drilled and Formed.

I like it, beefs up the differential between drilled and formed hoplites, which where I have noticed the most or rather the least difference between the two.

I don't like the idea. There are plenty of difference. The ability to shift twice on a double is underrated.
Miniature Wargaming is the only completely honorable form of warfare ever invented by man.

As most cavalry ( mounted ) is formed it will have an enormous impact on cavalry manoeuvres . Mounted shooty will have to think twice

Unnecessary change IMHO

Tribal can turn 90 / 180 degrees on a yellow???? Same as formed. You would have too look at all the movements and all the points costs. If it ain't broke, don't fix it!
