To avoid more confusion I am seeking an official clarification and errata from Simon and have removed this topic for now.

Consulted with Simon.

Okay - it appears that many UK players (myself included) have been playing the rules incorrectly (not fur the first time).

Apologies to those who pointed this out - the rules do say what they mean to say.  Units within 3BW take tests for seeing friendly TuGs rout.  Within is defined as <= 3BW.

So - routs, units within 3BW DO have to take KaB tests.  This includes units exactly at 3BW.
This means that if you have a line of 3 TuGs, each 3BW apart, and the TuG on the left routs, both the TuG in the centre and on the right must take a KaB test for seeing the TuG rout.

I am not quite sure how this confusion arose, all I can say is that it has been going on for many years.  The effect is that there will be a few more KaB tests being taken.

I will raise this as a point of emphasis at the next tournament in the UK - Skullrollers at the London Grand Tournament to make sure everyone is aware before the tournament starts.

Note - some bases are not exactly 1BW (gasps of amazement)!  If TuGs are separated by a 3BW TuG, they will be deemed to be within 3BW.  You can't remove the UG, then take out a measuring stick and claim that they aren't....

The irony for me is that I was hoping Simon would rule the other way! (I'm thinking of playing an army that could really use fewer, not more KaB tests.)

I know it can be a thankless task dealing with all of us (and maybe some more than other  ::) ) so let me thank Richard for his effort moderating this forum.

Glad to get it sorted.  I hope to do some diagrams to add as a learning resource when I can find time.

Might be having moment hear but the following I don't get:

"So - routs, units within 3BW DO have to take KaB tests.  This includes units exactly at 3BW.

Surely if the line of tugs are 3BW APART that would be one TUG, then 3 BW gap, then the centre TUG then 3 BW and then the last TUG.  That would mean the two gaps alone would be 6BW.  I'm assuming it means, if you have three TUGS in a line, each TUG having front rank of 3 BW.  That way it would be 'at 3BW' line where the final TUG meets the right of the middle TUG?

Ny apart I meant without gaps.

I think he intended: " a line of 3 TuGs, each 3BW wide"
