so no claim for CL if affected by terrain but if they get a skull does shatter still apply?

Read the definition on page 204 it answers this - reading the rules really does help.

Ah yes - i see it now ..... no shatter allowed for charging lancer unless the CL's base front edge is in good going.

Yup - unlike DC which can get it even in terrain.

Expect Hunter to be putting lots of terrain down against Norman's etc so he can hide his long spear cavalry in them and get an added factor in impact. The downside is that in melee the Normans get their melee expert against the long spear Cavalry which they would not in the open. So a bit of a mixed bag with that one especially if the long spear Cavalry are unprotected.
