In a game yesterday one file of a SUG of cavalry charged and successfully contacted a single file of a SUG of enemy cavalry that had attempted to skirmish away (a unit of combat shy horse archers). Whilst a charging UG is allowed to undertake an MF1 move in the following movement phase it appears an evading UG isn't allowed to do so as they limited to M2, M9 and M10 moves, no mention of MF moves.

Is this correct?

As the rules are written that is correct (4.6 on page 128).  They cannot make MF moves in the movement phase.  They can after combat in the fighting phase (SP 5.5).

I have a nasty feeling that I will have got this wrong a few times and made MF1/2 moves when a skirmishing unit has been caught.

However, I must say that not allowing them MF2 (turn to face enemy in contact) does seem like an omission.

It does seem a bit harsh. Having two hacks at your rear if you ran away is very dispriting!

Simon Hall has been consulted.  An errata will be issued allowing UGs that have been caught to undertake MF1 and MF2 moves.
