Hello,

Looking at the numidian list the following question popped up :

The Skirmishers are all skilled shooters, but the flexible cavalry are experienced.
This seems strange to me as flexibles can be played in skirmish formation.

what would be the reason for this?

thanks

Something along the lines that it is those wholly dedicated to skirmishing that get to be the best shots, those who are more generalist less so I would guess.  IMO the Flexibles are rather speculative anyway, the descriptions are all about skirmishers as I recall.

NB before anyone asks, these sort of judgements are on a list by list basis and you should not (necessarily) extrapolate the classification from one list to others.

I'd also point out that only the "Best" of the skirmishers are Skilled and not all of them ...

I think that with the advent of Flexibles it gave the Numidians a chance to form up and charge enemy that had been weakened by their javelin volleys? Otherwise they are just left skirmishing for the whole battle.

We have a similar case with the Albanese mounted , sons of osman book, Albanian Principalities but as Nik said, two diffrent lists, 2 different periods can we compare ? .

From what I can remember the Albanians had a fierce reputation and were prepared to get into combat - so maybe an even better case for being Flexibles?

The Albanians are Flexibles for exactly that reason :D Cases of Numidians fighting hand to hand are, as I understand it, rather rare in any circumstance hence my thinking their Flexibles as somewhat speculative.
