Pursuit into new enemy in the Shooting Phase

During Rayfest yesterday had an unusual (for me) situation.  I broke an enemy UG that was in combat from shooting at an overlap.  My UG that was in combat then pursued into another enemy UG.  From the turn sequence it seems that unlike a pursuit in the Charge phase, you don't end up fighting any charge combat.  Instead you just end up fighting the melee combat  (see page 86).

I don't have a problem with this, it is just that it is a situation that I hadn't come across before.

Can't recall that happening in any game I've played so far that's for sure  :D

9. If a new enemy is contacted:
9.1. If the new contact has occurred during a charge phase fight a further charge combat immediately,
9.2. Otherwise fight in the next charge phase.

Simon,

Yes I was aware of page 167, but if the pursuit occurs in the Shooting Phase it is already in contact when the Melee Phase occurs.  There is nothing to say that there is no melee!  Do you fight the charge phase after you have already had one round of Melee Phase? Bear in mind that there are other situations when you can end up in melee contact without having had a charge.

If you stick with the idea that there is no melee until after the following turn (which I have no problem with), what happens if another enemy UG is in side-edge to side-edge contact and turns in the movement phase?  Is there still no fight until the following Charge Phase?

Your complication is one I will need to ponder, but my intent was that they fight a charge phase first always. Hence 9.2 saying when they fight.  So yes I think it would reamin that there is no combat until the next charge phase with or against said unit.
