1. MO subcommanders

The way I am reading this, if you take MO subs, you can make them either Instinctive or Professional. The wording is open to interpretation (or at least not clear to my brain) and there is nothing in the explanatory text to clarify.  I assume this is because the MO commanders made some rash decisions in this period so they can be Instinctive, as opposed to the Outremer States list that includes a note "The army may have a single Military Order commander who must be Professional"? That this note is in one list but not the other seems to confirm my reading that I or P for Later Crusader MO subbies?

2. Terrain

The tent pegs for the 3rd crusade referred to in the Later Crusader list, is this something this list can use in a comp, if 1192 CE date selected?  "The tent pegs used by Richard at Jaffa in 1192 CE could be represented by a special rough going terrain selection that is treated as good going by close order infantry."

Cheers,

Dru

IMO it is clear from the wording in the generals section of the list that the military order generals must be Professional. The note is in the earlier list as otherwise that list could be read as 0-3 Professional being allowed due to the wording in the generals section, the Later Crusader list has different wording in the generals section which is clear thus no note needed.

I'd say that would only be useable in a Jaffa scenario - the note is to assist anyone doing it.
"The Roman Empire was not murdered and nor did it die a natural death; it accidentally committed suicide."

Hi Dru,

1.  I understand why you see the wording as unclear.  When I wrote this I intended that Military Order sub-generals had to be Professional, but I can see why you might interpret this as either Professional or Instinctive.

2.  No, this is a suggestion for scenario games, not intended as a competition thing.  I hope in further updates to include more scenario suggestions into the lists, giving lists a special section with scenario suggestions (alongside the notes and historical notes).

Yeah, so my understanding is that the  Crusader General is Instinctive but can have a Military Order Professional sub-general ... which is unusual. There will be no card distribution to the sub generals so the only advantage of the  Professional sub is a slightly longer command range and the ability to give an order to an UG outside their command by paying two cards (the extra colour card for out of command)

Correct.

Its a big tax with the cost of those dang generals nowadays but if that is the intent, no worries. I was probably most confused because Outremer had the note but Later Crusader did not. Thanks for clarifying.

There is no difference between MO and other foot, right? (I recall, but may be wrong, other systems in the past made MO and other foot different grades?).

Correct. There are no entries specifically for military order foot, but the military order subbies can command other troops in addition to their contingent.
