The FF characteristic is just a complete waste of time and points. Absurd that the rules reference the Breton cav. using it successfully @ Hastings. Clearly Harold's troops weren't told that they can ignore the Bretons.

Either make it useful by requiring ALL/nearly all troop types to respond  eg all but superior units, or or reduce the price to 1 point per base.  Perhaps even 1 pt is too expensive.

Thanks  for such a prompt and useful reply. I knew magna and pacto  points were/should be identical - i just didn't know which version was correct

I was looking at Magna and Pacto late medieval 2023 lists, particularly 5416 but I got same results for some other 5### lists featuring artillery. Can't remember which armies

List Queries / Magna and Pacto artillery costs
December 13, 2023, 02:15:03 PM
Using 2023 lists,
MAGNA lists have Guns have c/shy guns @90pts +optional  barricades@32pts
Cannons 212pts with both attributes being compulsory
And those are the points used by the army builder

However, for PACTO the lists for guns say 90pts +16 for optional  barricades, but the builder insists that barricades are 32pts
canons cost 196 with both compulsory attributes, but the computer says 212pts

Which Pacto cost versions are correct? I should add that this is the only time I've ever seen discrepancies - and it does impact of an army I intend to use!

Tx in advance

Player Discussion / 2023 ODS army creator not working
October 07, 2023, 11:02:00 AM
Was fine last week, but now refuses to work properly. Generals and camps bit still work but not units
Won't give points per base and doesn't allow me to do it manually
Tells me  I have  5 TUGS even after 1 put in only 1 etc etc

This has been going on for the last few days

Help please

I know I'm useless at this sort of thing.............

It comes up as a .ods file and I can input the correct version (PACTO) generals and the 1st unit line and get the correct points values
Then that's it - can't input anything else
Maybe I need to see someone else doing it

I sure I am not the 1st to raise this issue but I haven't found the answer on the forum

I have libra office but the MEG spreadsheet doesn't accept it, and I'm not going to pay £80 pa to get excel for which I have no other use.

So how do I calculate these values for my armies?

Thanks martymagnificent

What with this and the feigned flight issue I also queried, I must try to stop thinking too logically  :-[.

Do these units have to charge or counter-charge to get the +1 bonus? I'm thinking mainly of the scenario of cav charging inf  who have that characteristic but which has decided to  stand to receive the charge. Given that the characteristic is designed to simulate charges that have above-average momentum, it would seem to be a bit odd to give it to a unit without any momentum.

Tx for any help

Can you get it if you are standing still, as opposed to actually charging of c/charging.

I'm thinking really of the scenario of cav charging inf who have the DC trait. Can the inf stand to receive and still get the bonus for their unused charging skill, or do they have to c/charge to get it, and then the cav get +1 for inf not standing to receive?

Tx for any help

Player Discussion / Re: NOOB question re feigned flight

@ Jilu - 'we' are the English/British. That said, we are a mongrel people composed of many invaders. After all. the original inhabitants were all wiped out by those vicious Beaker People.  I doubt that many of us don't have any french genetic heritage. I have quite a lot so perhaps I should be claiming that 'we' won Hastings by a clever ruse, rather than by cheating.

@ Badhabum - From trying to learn the rules, I suspect that your comment on the usefulness of feigned flight is correct. There will be armies against whom it will probably be worthwhile, but only a minority.

The rules use Hastings as an exemplar of successful use of this tactic
However, the rules say that it is to all intents and purposes ineffective against infantry, and the Saxons had nothing else.

Does this mean that we can now rightfully claim that we won that battle?
