Thanks for that.  It was just some of the effect on the helmets looked like the quickshade only the rest of the figure didn't look grimy as Army painter sometimes causes.
I hadn't considered contrast paints.
Thanks.

Great looking miniatures.  Am I right in thinking you have used the Army Painter quick shade products on these?  If so, you have managed a much better result than I have seen on many 28mm figures.

MeG Fantasy / Help. Tolkien First Age
April 08, 2021, 12:12:51 AM
Hi.  Any help would be appreciated.

I have bought MEG to get back to ancients wargaming (abandoned about 25 years ago) and to do some Middle earth gaming.
My main interest is the First Age.  I have seen the list for Lord of the Rings.
I don't like the movie aesthetics, so I am trying to go with something closer to the books.  Unfortunately there is little to go on and educated guesses are needed.

I don't picture Orcs as fielding large units of archers.  Most archers will either be skirmishers or mixed in with their war bands.
I see I could do one of several things.
1. Have a rear rank of archers and melee troops in the front ranks.
2. Use Integral Shooters (limiting them to firing when being charged)
3. Shoot and Charge (limiting then to firing when they charge)
4. In the glossary there is the term Charge Only.  This states firing can be done when charging or being charged.  This term is not in the Special Characteristics list and I can't find it on the drop down box in the army builder.

I am undecided whether I have trolls as per the Lord of the Rings list, or make them Elephants.

Thanks in advance.
I will doubtless have other questions coming.

Thanks for those reports.  They are certainly helpful for someone who is new to the game and still deciding what figures to buy/how to base.
It is nice to see battles with proper battlelines.

Thanks for that.  Decisions, decisions...............

Player Discussion / Scale and Basing - 15mm vs 10mm
March 27, 2021, 11:37:00 PM
Hi, I am new to this forum and have so far only played a couple of games of MEG with my 28mm figures.   I want to use the rules for large scale battles and to have the look of massed armies.
I am tossing up between 10mm and 15mm figures.  The aim to to do a fairly quick paint - again, going for a massed look rather than individually pretty figures.
I am playing solo mainly and if playing against others I will be proving both armies.
10mm will allow up to 10 figures on a 40x20 base (two ranks of 5).
I am unsure whether only four 15mm figures on a base will give me the mass I want.  Can a second rank of figures fit on a 40x20 base?
I suspect they won't, my Napoleonic miniatures are 18mm (Eureka) and need 25mm for two ranks.
If I did go with deeper bases (25mm) would this affect the mechanics of the game much?

So far I love the rules and look forward to contributing here in the future.
