Rules Queries and Clarifications / Devastating Chargers
November 01, 2022, 01:13:36 AM
A couple of questions arose from our last game. As far as we could tell the following are correct.
1.   If a TUG of cataphracts charges a Devastating Charger foot unit that has a short spear from the front. Does the infantry unit get the +1 for short spear, +1 for devastating charger, keeping the shatter possibility, and is standing to receive. The cataphract would get a +1 for devastating charger and +1 for long spear also having shatter possibilities.
2.   The above situation but the mounted unit is a charging lancer in good going. The infantry unit get the +1 for short spear, +0 for devastating charger, keeping the shatter possibility, and is standing to receive. The lancer would get a +2 for charging lancer also having shatter possibilities.
3.   Shatter and shove results apply to the adjacent fighting file even if the file is from a different TUG and is of a completely different type.

Rules Queries and Clarifications / Skirmish Response
September 08, 2022, 02:13:08 PM
A question arose in our latest game.
A TUG of heavy horse archers was charged by another TUG of cavalry and wanted to make a skirmish/evade response.  As the charge was from the flank the questions were:
•   Can it skirmish shoot at another target other than the charger?
•   Can it push back an enemy SUG in front of it while skirmishing
•   Is a prompted action required to return to convert to non skirmish status
Thanks

Can you make a move with a "Devastating Charger" stand in the second rank of a unit that fought in the charge combat phase in a MF1 move as that stand is no longer engaged?

In the charge phase does the C2 phase of prompting charges have to be completed before the stop forced charges C3 phase begins?  In that case a TUG who would have a forced charge does not have to state if it is going to stop the charge until all prompted charges have been declared.

In our last game a question arose about MF1 moves.  Do you have to move to a single different file, or are you allowed to move unengaged elements to different files.  So could some elements fill a gap while others move to fight supporting files or does that require two MF1 moves?  Also are the second rank of close infantry fighting loose infantry in good going engaged as they provide shove?  Thanks.

A couple of questions arose in todays game:
1. In the errata clarifications it states CAN YOU DO A BLOCK HOLD EVEN IF SOME TuGS ARE NOT DEV CHARGER? Yes, play as written. The rules allows all actions to be block actions.  The definition of a block is defined on 105.  So are they in a block? Yes.  So they can do it.  It deliberately doesn't mention them needing to have there same characteristics. Usual if something isn't there its for a reason.

In our case can you do a block move M8 move in which some UGs contract but others do not as they would then not be in a legal formation.

2.  If a TUG of 2 bases wide and two bases deep h charges a TUG that is two bases wide and two bases deep deep in the flank are there two files fighting two files or just one file fighting one file?

Thank you for the responses.  Two additional questions:
1.   On page 120 it says chargers can alter their direction if any UG has changed position since their charge was declared.  Do they adjust the initial wheel amount (but still less than 90degrees) or can they add an additional wheel once they get to where the enemy UG was located?  If they adjust the initial wheel can they contact an UG that was not in the initially marked  path of the charge?
2.   For skilled UGs making a run away or skirmish move do they say if they want to add one before rolling the variable movement dice or after?

A couple of further questions:
1.   When you declare a charge and put the direction of charge marker down does it have to be unambiguous which UGs would need to make a charge response (including to stand and receive)?
2.   On page 132 it states chargers can only change direction where the target of a charge has changed position.  How do you know what the target is?

A couple of questions arose from last nights game.

1. In the charge declaration phase when you place the charge arrow do you have to state the target unit of the charge as on page 116 it states you must be able to contact the target of the charge.
2. Can you declare a charge against a unit that has already declared a charge on your unit and if so if the other unit moves first in the moving chargers phase are you considered to be standing to receive or are you moving?

Thanks.

Rules Queries and Clarifications / Skirmish Response
September 02, 2021, 08:11:32 PM
A question concerning a bow armed TUG making a skirmish response to being charged arose last night.  On the shooting range and depth chart on page 157 is it considered a TUG in loose or close or is it a TUG in skirmish?

Rules Queries and Clarifications / Flexibles
August 07, 2021, 05:56:36 PM
In our last game a few questions arose over flexible cavalry in skirmish formation.
1.   Is it treated like a SUG and therefore disperses if contacted by a charging TUG when skirmishing or running away from a charge or Is normal combat resolved?
2.   Does it still require more than one half casualties to break if in skirmish formation?
3.   If fighting a SUG doe sit get the +2 in combat for TUG versus SUG?
4.   Is its movement rate 5 as a TUG but 6 If in skirmish?

Thanks.

After summing up the skulls, wounds and S results do you compare it to the target width before or after shooting.  We had a case of a unit starting with three base widths but loosing one base width to shooting and the sum was 2.

Rules Queries and Clarifications / Movement Question
September 28, 2020, 05:56:46 PM
We have just started playing MEG and one question has come up about movement.  In movement can you move up to 1mm from an enemy unit but would require a M6 movement to contact an enemy unit in the movement phase.   If you used the M6 movement would you fight in the melee phase?  Thanks I apologize if teh question has been answered before.
