Player Discussion / Re: Unnecessarily Complicated
November 23, 2023, 10:49:42 PM
As a rule set I find the combat simple and intuitive, the I use of cards for orders is likewise simple and effective.  If there is one area I find complex it's the manoeuvre, it's a game where mm matter, and while I enjoy the challenge doesn't quite feel historical. I can't see even Roman legionaries manoeuvring on the battlefield with that precision.
I guess There could be some simplification for example in an evade a simple, is your distance ran plus starting distance greater than my charge then you get away but changing it more would lose a lot of its flavour
There are also rule sets out there that are much simpler such as TTS which uses a grid, so there are much simpler rules already out there, and players have a choice as to what they prefer.

The rules allow you to make an M2,8,10 after a run away move, does this apply both as a response to charge and as an option for SUGS instead of pushed back in the movement phase (assuming you haven't already moved)

Rules Queries and Clarifications / Flank march

Are flank marchers assumed to be together, so allow block moves or tug a sug, or do they all need to come on separately

Rules Queries and Clarifications / Re: Ambush and shooting
September 23, 2021, 11:55:49 PM
Thank you, it was the wording enemy who come in range implying an immediate reaction to the act of coming in range that confused me, to me it would be better worded enemy who are in range.

I assume range is measured from the ambush card to determine if this can trigger in the shooting phase as we don't know the range to the unit till it is revealed.

Rules Queries and Clarifications / Ambush and shooting

Line 12 of ambush  says troops in ambush may shoot at any enemy who come in range and arc and must be revealed on table immediately before doing so

Does this rule mean they shoot out of phase in the movement phase.  Take archers in scrub can be seen at 3 bw, if an enemy comes within 4 bw, can they immediately shoot, being revealed in doing so, and if so does the enemy stop at 4bw, while this is done,

Thanks

Thanks Richard, great approach and makes sense,

i was thinking more in terms of control

In this picture for the square general the blue unit is within 3BW, but not when using the round base, assuming my understanding of the rues is correct, (which is a big assumption)

Hmm, Another rule I have been playing wrong, I took it saying he/she is "with the file" to mean within the file and therefore measure anywhere from the file.

I guess that would then make round bases materially worse than square bases

Rules Queries and Clarifications / Visability

Can I get some guidance on visibility,

take the example of some infantry in tall crops (infantry visible at 3BW), lets say they are 1 BW from the edge
Are these statements true
- They can not be seen by any UG unless that UG is within 3 BW of them (I think that is clearly true, the 3BW distance applies to absolute distance, not distance inside terrain)
- They can see any non infantry unit outside of the terrain to their front - so they can see a cavalry unit at 4Bw away but the cav unit can not see them (again I think that is clear in the rules0
- An infantry unit 4 BW can be seen by the unit in the crops but can not see them (This I am not sure of, does the visibility work both ways or only apply to the what the unit being looked at is in)

Thanks
