This week-end we were faced by a very dismountable kyrenean army. It is powerful vs cavalry indeed as it still has it's +2 for LS 2 rank deep, still negates the melee expect, CL, DC and so on . It also still has shield cover and shove ....not bad
But what is the right price of that characteristic . Army list says 5 but army builder says 10 so who is right ?
I just tested it on the army builder and it calculates it at 5.

It is too powerful or underpriced . And when engaged vs such an opponent is costly if cav or cats
FWIW the only time my Kyrenean hoplites fought mounted against cavalry, they lost.
Perhaps but they lost green on green or green on white the hoplites also having some shove in stock
There is a list change for 2025. Mounted Cyrenaean hoplites won't be able to claim long spear.
Are there any other lists that have Dismountable Infantry with Long Spear?

Nikeforian Varangian guard - both lists.
Foot guard in both Khazar lists.

So let me rephrase it :
Dismountable LS will not count as LS in 2 ranks for impact and melee but still count as foot receiving LS vs mounted DC, CL etc...
They keep "shove" and "shield cover"
Why note dismount with spearprotection?
Oh well, I suppose being three factors down is not as bad as being 5 or 6 down.
But not as good as everyone else only losing 1 factor.
While I'm in grumble mode, I note LSp and Pike lose their +1/+2/+3 when in orb, too. Is orb cheaper for troops that need to be in multiple ranks for a claim than it is for others?
5405 and 5410 feudal and medieval scottish are LS dismountable
