Lance.
Agreed, very nice 8)
Do you have more information on the venue ? (Location, price, date for sending the list)
Thanks
Cheers
RJC, Lance and I are going - not sure if an actual entry has been sent yet though.
Full details:

As of today there are no actual bookings for teams for MeG - clearly the telepathy option is not working !
Booked in. Lance, Nik and myself.
Looking more closely at the themes Period 1 and Period 3 look OK to me, however, Period 2 (Any list from the Crusades Book) might, IMO, have a problem
Basically I suspect that the Later Crusader is too much of a go to list and we'll end up with a situation similar to the Crusades period at Campaign last year and the late Byzantine period this year where we'll end up with nearly all entries the same army. That is not a good thing IMO.
Anyone else think there is an issue? If so how to tweak?
There are rumblings from Team HARDLEE COMPETENT that we may be available. Discussions this weekend
I may see if i can arrange a team
Quote from: Robin on June 26, 2019, 09:31:22 PM
CID, Pete and Myself are up for it if a few teams enter. Any teams entered or thinking of entering?
Should have a better idea after weekend
Paul and I are looking for a third to make our team. We'd be delighted if you would be able to join us
Alasdair,Lee and Ray will be entering
The latest update we had from the main organiser only showed the one actual booking, so if there are teams planning on attending it would be useful if you could sign up very soon please so we can establish whether the event is viable prior to people booking accommodation.
Based on this thread I'm still only seeing maybe 4 teams currently ? Perhaps someone who knows the nicknames better than I could do a tally-up ?
You are correct with 4 likely teams at present.
If a teams comp is not viable is a singles possible? Or is the event themed for teams?

At the moment, 4 teams max. We had 6 teams at Campaign. Might be able to shake the tree after the holiday season.
Ray
Needs sorting by about Britcon IMO to be fair on the orgas.
The organiser (not us..) is keen that we establish viability of some sort of MeG event sooner rather than later, as there is a considerable amount of logistics involved in the wider event of which we are but part - so in the absence of more team bookings being forthcoming we should be relaunching this as a singles event fairly soon.
Stand by for further updates.... and if you'd look to enter a singles event please put your hand up !
I'd be happy with a singles comp - have the weekend booked for toy soldiers already after all 8)
Lee, Alasdair and Ray have paid and entered
The Blank Tossers (i.e. Paul Cummins, Stephen Steads and myself) have now entered
With what seems a limited prospect of getting the 6 teams necessary, the proposal on the table gentlemen is to flip this to a single event, and in the interests of simplicity go with the firs of the three "team" themes
This will mean a single pool, 15mm singles event with the theme of:
Period 1 Rise of Macedon 359- 323 BC – 10,000 points
Theban (Classical Greek)
Athenian (Classical Greek)
Thracian Hill Tribes
Early Macedonian
Illyrian
Mercenary Greek
Later Spartan
Alexandrian Macedonian
Alexandrian Expeditionary
Mountain Indian
Classical Indian
Later Achaemenid Persian
Early Scythian
Thracian Lowland
Current team member entrants would be transferred into the singles event which will be played over the usual 4 rounds of 3 hour games over the two days.
Unless there are any virulent objections we'll press the button on changing the website to enable single entries later this week.

Hi Tim,
I'll drop out if it's singles.
Ray
We would only be doing this as it does look as if a team event is not viable, as we only have an indication of 4 possible teams at this point in time.
We are also open to suggestions of a different theme that might work better.
Thats also a perfectly fine option... as we said earlier, more than happy to take suggestions from this forum as to theme.
It's more a case that past experience shows that posting a "whaddya want?"-type open question to a bunch of wargamers on any forum will inevitably throw up more answers than there are forum members...so making a firm-ish suggestion and asking for it to be shot down is much easier all round ... 8)
It's also worth pointing out maybe that the theme is simply one (the first..) of the three themes which were published for the MeG team event some time ago, and it was designed and selected by Alasdair. It's also pretty much the textbook ancients theme, which most people probably therefore have an army for..
I was interested in another team event, nice dynamic and a change up from other events. I'm not interested in another themed event with a tiny choice of armies. It's a personal thing, can't please everyone.

Would open singles, or indeed any other theme tempt you ?

Swapping to a singles event is OK - sensible in fact given not enough teams have committed.
However, that theme is too narrow outside of a team comp.
I'd not go to that.
I'd suggest either a wider theme or an open comp for this. In fact, as there is only 1 open comp in the MeG calendar this year (as, oddly, Britcon isn't an open) I'd suggest an
Open Comp 8)
The call is Tim's/BHGS.
Well better ask around at Britcon. As at the mo it's like hearding Snails. No get up and go. No enthusiasm IYKWIM
An open competition would generate more interest (participation!!!) i would certainly enter if it was open

No - decide this week, no need to dither until after Britcon. If it is decided before Britcon it can be talked about at Britcon based on what is going to happen, much better.
If there's only one "open" event in the calendar (and on the assumption that "open" isn't broken in MeG) that may well be the most sensible option then..
All cats/snails/headless chickens say "aye"...?

Quite the opposite it seems 8)
not sure if Nik is for or against "open"
I would probably go if it was open.
Ray
Al right then....
Will ask the chap running the booking form to make the changes asap...
OK - we have three teams booked for the MeG teams. The people who booked them were:
Richard Jeffrey-Cook
Raymond Duggins
Jason Broomer
From the post below, Richard also booked for Lance Flint and Nik Gaukroger.
I think that makes the other four:
Lee ???
Alasdair Harley
Paul Cummins
Stephen Stead
Can somebody let me have Lee's surname please and also let me know if those nine names are correct.
The link has now been updated to accept single entries and can be found here:

Yes, but it's £34 a ticket, which is the cost for a single person

Any chance you could remove the team references as it'll just confuse people. Also needs to be clear that it is now an OPEN comp. Thanks.
Now showing as a singles event.

Yes.
Due to the way things have worked out there are more tickets sold than players :o Tim Porter for the BHGS has been sent the list of players we have so I assume will be coordinating with you about table space required (7).
Yeah, it's me sorting out the table space, not Tim.
Thank you and good luck.
Thanks Lemmey.
Some further venue information:
A map of the venue is here:
I haven't decided where the tables are going to be, but annoyingly, you can see we are about as far from the bar as we can get.
There is a venue wide PA system that we'll be using for an opening speech just before 10:00 on Saturday morning to quickly cover H&S matters. This will be used for 40k announcements, but I don't consider that MeG will need to be announced over the PA, so I'll just leave you to publish the draw as normal.
Armies can be left overnight. If you are particularly paranoid, there are lockers that you can use for £1, but obviously there will be many thousands of pounds of stuff left at the venue and it is locked when we leave - at around 11pm.
There is likely to be high demand for food - especially during peak times betwen 13:00 and 14:00. There is a pre-ordering system where you can pre order food and collect it at a set time which would help.
The bar is open till around 10:30pm, there's not an easy pub nearby - so feel free to stay at the venue and relax, but there is an 11pm lock down.
There is an official awards ceremony on Sunday from 1730-1800. There are 500 banked seats and a stage plus space for 500 more to sit in front, so this should be a pretty impressive way to round out the weekend. I'm not sure if we are going to utilise this ceremony as we finish our last game at 16:30 and some people have a long way to travel. If you could let me know if you want to utilise this option that would be grand.
Raffle: There is an excellent raffle with thousands of pounds of stuff to win, this is drawn at the awards ceremony - see me if you want to buy an tickets.

Thanks for the info. I'll check but I suspect that as you suggest many of our players will want to get away not too long after the games end. I'd work on that basis unless you hear otherwise.
