At Skull Rollers, my first round opponent reproved me for trying to have a general join an elephant to fight in the front rank. He told me you could not join an elephant to fight front rank with a general. I took this as gospel and did not look it up. When I got home, I told the others in my club we'd been playing that wrong.
Now that I'm home I have searched the rules, 2018-19 changes, and the clarries without finding any such prohibition. Am I just looking in the wrong place? Could some kind soul set me right?
I was also told (by another player) that you don't automatically get a free move with a general who's with a broken unit that gets caught and survives unscathed. While looking through the rules, I find that this advice looks wrong; generals with a unit that gets caught DO get a free move. What am I missing?
I have withheld the names to protect the innocent. It is posssible I misunderstood.

The elephants and general not fighting is on p. 103

As far as I know the general gets a free move, p.98. Unless there is somewhere else in the rules which says no...

The innocent were half right...

Can't use a general with elephants.  In the unusual troop type section about Ellies and awlays has been.

Yes you get a free move when you survive the KaB to escape the drama. As located.

Thanks to Craig and Simon for the responses. My mistake was looking under 'generals' and not under Elephants as 'unusual troop types'. I mean, what could be more ordinary and usual than elephants?

Very good.
It is in both in the new draft.
