Knights in mixed formations - Dismounting discrepancies
« on: April 09, 2024, 12:20:04 PM »
Hello,

Several lists have knights in mixed formations, with front rank ArmHrs/FArm and back rank(s) Protected. Some of these lists also provide the option to dismount them with front and back ranks all being FArm (for example lists 7103 Later Burgundian, 7110 Italian States, 7112 Italian Wars Venetian).

However, lists 7104 Later French Ordonnance, 7105 Swabian League 7108 Maximilian German and 7109 German City States seem to be incoherent with this pattern:
  • 7104 has -/FArm back rank coustiliers that dismount as FArm (which seems logical), but there is also option to downgrade coustiliers as Protected without any impact mentioned on their dismounted protection
  • 7105, 7108 and 7109 are in another situation : their back ranks which are Protected as well dismount as Protected

Are these differences intended ?

Best,
Antoine

I believe they are; although they may be a tad arbitrary - but so are many things, it's a feature not a bug  ;)

Intended - whether justified historically I am not so sure.
