Good evening. I request a clarification on two (2) rules questions that came up today gaming with my son.
The first question has to do with the slowing effect during shooting. I had a Tug of bowmen shooting at his Carthaginian spearmen. Rolling three (3) dice, I only got a wound symbol. My son stated that his spearmen were slowed by one base-with movement. I disagreed, as I did not get an S on any die. Who is correct in this instance?

The second query pertains to a charge my son did on one of my Phalangite Tugs. This Tug was in a block formation that was already engaged to its front. In the dice roll, I managed to get an S (shove) for the above Tug. Do I accept the S even though the combat was to the flank which I could not do? Please advise.

We both love this game system! My son is collecting a Carthaginian army, I have a Pyrrhic force, My wife now has a Mid Republican Roman collection. My Christmas presents were Norman and Arab models for the First Crusade. ;D

Respectfully,
Pete.

Wound and S on a dice while shooting gives a slow, if the requirements are met, see QRS : depends on frontage :
Total Skulls + Sword & Arrow + S and compare to target width in files
If an UG receives total hits ≥1/2 files it loses 1BW of movement distance
Total hits ≥ files of front rank loses 2BW; ≥2x files loses 3BW.

for the second question
For the shove bonus :  See QRS anything above the weapons modificators qualifies even if in a flank combat. Except when : * Only claimable when fighting to front
Liberate me ex infernis

My son still disagrees with this. Does one need the S result along with a Skull or Wound symbol for the Slow effect to qualify for the Slow effect?

Assuming we are talking Maximus or Magna.

No S result is required. It is the number of non-blank results divided by the target UG width in bases that matters.

Good Morning. Thank you for your prompt reply. Yes, the game we play is Magna. I will inform my son he was right.
Again thank you for making a great set of rules.  ;D
