The new barbarians

Looks like an interesting option proposed for barbarian infantry – Option to regrade barbarians. All or none option for barbarians to be Charge Only Javelin, Short Spear as opposed to Devastating Chargers.

Would there be any distinction between those infantry which currently have short spear and devastating charger and those only with devastating charger, or would they both morph into the same thing if they choose to change?

If my understanding is right, Richard has not included a similar option for those troops in his listing but the SSp, DC ones will have Impact Weapon (no missile capability) as the All/none alternative.

I am assuming he hasn't changed his mind of course

No I haven't.  The summary of changes could be more explicit.

So currently for classical period european style barbarians there are 1) DC 2) DC and SSp and 3) SSp unskilled shooters shoot and charge (Goths etc)
With the proposed changes there will be also 4) Charge Only Javelin, Short Spear (option for type 1)  and 5) Impact weapon.(option for type 2)

My only mild concern is that 4 and 5 are different types or beast , rather than 5 being  a simple improvement on 4, as is now the case with types 1 and 2.
In particular, the charge only/short spear type will be more effective at dealing with mounted types.

How about instead:

Current DC troops can morph into the existing model for Goths et al, ie SSp unskilled shooters, shoot and charge, and the current DC/SSp can morph into the new proposed model type, ie SP and charge only shooters? Thus they are still similar enough types with the new model being slightly better.

Why would a player using barbarians equipped with SP and Dc change to impact weapon ? . Might make them better vs some mounted or nellies but otherwise they are much better SP + DC .
