Forced Chargers

Hi I had a situation in my last game which the rules don't seem to cater for.
If a TUG of devastating chargers is sitting behind a friendly TUG engaged in combat (touching front to back) and must force charge in the next charge phase but cannot make contact with the enemy TUG, they could not reduce frontage by one file or use the half BW shift to avoid the friendly TUG in order to make contact with enemy TUG, what can they do?

The Free charge options don't seem to apply. We played it that both TUGs took a KAB test and just left it in place.

That seems correct.  If all the files of the TuG that would be passed through are in combat then no displacement can occur.

p116 of the original printed compendium says under A: Declaring Charges  'to charge an UG must be able to reach and contact the target as the UGs currently are' it also defines charges as 'forced, free and prompted.'

The above doesn't seem to have made it into the PDF? or my search foo is rubbish.

In the question asked, doesn't the force charge just not happen as it doesn't have a valid target it can contact, even by bursting through its friends?

A long time ago there was no forced charge if the UG to the front and to be burst through was already engaged in combat with the target  8) I wonder why that changed

Not sure about the KaB test in this circumstance as there is no passing through and the KaBs in relation to forced charges only occur when passing through (different from a burst through in a skirmish/run away for example where a KaB is specified even if the burst through does not happen due to space restrictions).
