Perhaps due to a page break there was a discussion and 2 different interpretations in that now famous list :

On the second page you have the Pylian contingent under Nestor's unique and unified command.

I read it as a mandatory contingent so you must field them.

Someone else was not so sure telling us that it was only to be if the player fielded any Pylian contingent that you would use the minimas indicated

So mandatory or not ?

My understanding is that Pylian troops are optional - but if used must include the mandatory minimums and must be commanded by Nestor. The Pylian chariots and spearman may be regraded - but if any are, all must be.

Nope, definitely mandatory. If a contingent is optional there will be a note saying this such as in the Hittite Empire list or the Khitan and Khwarazmian/Indian contingents in the Mongol Conquest.
