I thought it might be useful to provide an update on the progress of the PDF edition.

To date we have:

1. Extracted the text from the existing rulebook.  Separated out chapters 1-6 and 10-12.  These will go into a free introductory PDF.
2. Updated the text to incorporate all the errata.
3. Updated the text to address issues identified by the FAQs.
4. Restructured the contents into a more logical order.
5. Repeated some existing text and added some new text to put the rules you need in one place, all in one place.
6. Updated the QRS to reflect the changes.
7. Reviewed and updated the diagrams that need changing.
8. Identify where hyperlinks can be included.
9. Adding a new index.

As you might imagine, this is a not inconsiderable task. My main fear has been that in doing this we would introduce new errors, so there has been a lot of tracking of changes.

There is still a lot of work that will need to be done.  The text has to be reviewed by Simon. It then has to be sent to the layout person. Then it will need to be reviewed again.

It is worth stressing that there are no plans to introduce widespread changes to the rules.  There are however some tweaks that may be included, and some grey areas have been resolved by adding new text.  Nothing that will invalidate the old rulebook, but things that should improve playing the game and certainly make finding the rule at the right time a lot easier.

This new edition will form the basis for a PACTO edition, specifically written for Pacto play.

Personally, I think a PDF edition that is capable of being printed on demand is a great step forward in the development of MeG.  The ability to include hyperlinks and search a PDF should be a real plus point.

I am looking forward to the Pacto version!

It is looking great.

I have ordered a test print on demand of the ReG rules.  Should arrive this week.  Will report back when I get it.

Update.  Today (Monday 12th December)  I have sent what I hope is the last set of changes (for now!) to the PDF edition.

Fingers crossed

The good news being that changes/updates should be easy to implement if needed

Easier to implement.  I wouldn't describe it as easy.
