Oil Washes on Historical Miniatures?
« on: August 18, 2022, 05:13:05 PM »
Hi,

I'm not entirely certain of where to put this so please feel free to move to a more apt fora.

I've been looking into using oil washes on 28mm Historical miniatures and have found a ton of stuff on Fantasy/Sci Fi stuff in terms of tutorials/vids. Either my google foo is very off or the tutorials/vids simply do not exist.

I'm aiming to use them for The Crimean War, Ancients, Dark Ages and Late Medieval mini's.

Does anyone know of any such tutorials/vids using Oil Washes on 28mm Historical miniatures?

Thanks.

Only thing I can recall is something about painting horses with oil paints rather than washes.

No, that's almost the opposite of what I'm thinking of Nik :)

i spray paint the miniature usualy in white.
Only use oil color
i paint frirst colors, then white then black.
putting on the main color either pure from to tube or mixed with a bit of raw umber,
using the same color with white i highlight the parts that need to stand out

and it is all painted in a nice way, no need to wash

I am trying to do something very similar but with 28mm historical miniatures thus is would have to be done with more finesse and more subtlety.
