Hi All

I am having a talk with some friends on what can and cannot deploy in the flanks of a battle field (either secured or not secured)
In the PBS in deployment zone it says 'Unless on a secured flank or ambush, only Sugs may deploy within 5bw of table side edge'

But in the book page 69 deployment zones point 2 says other Ugs must be deployed in the center sector or be in flank march.

My question is if I have a close foot TUG can it be deployed 5 bw away from the edge (it will not be in the center zone) not in a secured flank.

Yes.

Only SuGs or flexible TuGs in skirmish formation can deploy within 5 BW of a non-secured flank table edge.

The wording on page 69 is clumsy.  It would be clearer if it said "Other UGs must be deployed more than 5BW from a non-secured flank table edge or be in flank march". Central zone should not be used as deployment has nothing to do with the flank sectors for terrain purposes.

Would perhaps benefit from an entry in the clarifications.

Thanks Richard

the book got us mixed up while the PBS is easy to understand

I think I've been doing this wrong, I have been setting up in the centre 10 BW's from each table edge with only SUG's allowed in the outer 5 BW's in an unsecure flank.

As I understand the posts above UG's can be deployed up to 5 BW's from the table edges if there is no secure flanks and 5 BW's / 10 BW's if a secure flank exists.

is that correct?

In Maximus, there is no 10BW zone for deployment.  The 10BW flank zone only applies for the placing of terrain.

If there is a secure flank, all troops can deploy up to the table edge.
If there is no secure flank, only SuGs or Flexibles in Skirmish Formation can deploy within 5BW of the flank edge.  (Ignoring ambushers).
