I would like to add to what Simon said.  I live in the states and bought v1 a couple of years ago.  I ran one game at home with buddies and convinced one person to buy a copy of rules. I also ran one game at a convention. Since then my gaming group hasn't been getting together much and covid put a stop to everything.  I'm playing v1 in solitaire sessions in my basement.

I'm happy with v1 because: 1) I don't see the impact of the tweaks that have been made (they look small to me), 2) I like my binder with my sheet protectors, 3) the latest QRS is really all you need to play the game. Point 3 is the most important.  The QRS really is the rules and the rulebook (or binder) is just an elaborate explanation of the QRS.

V1 really is good.

Once my gaming group jumps back into gaming regularly, I'm sure someone in the group will buy v2. At that point, I probably will too. Until then, I'm a v1 man.

Lovely to hear one both counts.

v1 always was really good, which is why it took off.
vs2 if just 9/10 plus some extras from 9.5/10  as rules, but 6/10 to 9.5/10 in packaging.
It is very very lovely now.  Very proud of both.

Hi all and especially Simon,

Thanks for the responses.
My group plays alot of different ancients games, I won't mention them all but I own 4 sets of rules already.

During a discussion MeG was brought up before lock down as another, so I looked at this as an option, I can't say it will take off at the club and didn't wish to spend the full amount on the compendium box set especially when the Lurkio shop had starter set, I know starter sets wouldn't include everything but thought I'll take the plunge and try and introduce it to the club.

I'll keep the set I have and see what happens once the club starts back up again, once a full errata is done I'll grab a copy of that, I also found a pdf to convert full MeG to magna which you did Simon. If this takes off I could look at purchasing a copy of just the V2 rules, I assume the cards and dice have remained the same.

Many thanks,
Dan

Hi Dan,

yeah cards and dice are the same. (Getting the v1 on sale is a REALLY good deal).

Only difference is the cards have a green/terrain backing now to blend in, rather than the purple backing. I am not sure which I prefer to be honest, but it could be my eye sight ha!

A few people had said the purple logo cards and the folders are heading for collectors items.  ;)
Great we have ti sorted Dan.  Its taking of all over the place now so I hope you find it fun and get some traction.

Looking forward to the update sheet and delighted to know my purple cards are potential heirlooms :).
Meanwhile, can someone direct  me to good painting references for Goths and Late Romans.

Simon Meg-Meister

What standard and cost per figure are you looking for.
I know several and some as Lurkio.
For the Plastics or metals?

I am flirting with the idea of ultracast pacto goths vs romans and just need some painting ideas.

Roman shields here - http://lukeuedasarson.com/NotitiaPatterns.html

Or just buy the transfers from LBMS - https://www.littlebigmenstudios.com/product-category/15mm-transfers/khurrasan-miniatures/late-roman-khurrasan-miniatures/

Other than that for Romans just searching Google Images should bring you plenty of inspiration if you search for Late Roman soldier or some such.

Probably the same for Goths - there isn't really anything much from the historical record so doing what looks right to you should be fine although they probably didn't look much different from the Romans other than less armour.

It's on my job list to compile the annual update into one so you have all the changes together in once document.  Play those and you are playing vs2 using vs1.

Hey Si,
This came up from someone else in FB forum.  Would be good if that compiled one-stop-shop document for v1 to v2 upgrade was avail to point people to.  Any news?

Cheers,

Pinned in a post above.
We want all version1 players to come onto the forum ideally.
So best on here I think.
