1213 Early Israelite - Warriors Protection

I am currently building an army based on this list and was wondering why the "Warriors" are unprotected. Having read the book by Simon Elliot on "Old Testament Warriors" can they not be "Protected"?

Be useful if you could summarise what in the book suggests that Protected may be suitable.

Sorry I have not responded until know, I was unable to find the book. However, I have since found the army list in the Bronze and Iron army lists.
