Book classical period    / ITALY , list Impérial  Roman 269 to 396 CE for MAXIMUS ; wording confuses some at the club.

Legionnaries or auxilia ... 24 to 64 follow by quite a lot of upgrades and  regrades .
Of which ( i assume ) Guard legionnaries , Exceptionnal ... 0-8

For an upcoming tournament , am i correct in proposing following arrangement or is something additionnel required ?

24 LEGIONNARIES of whose :
- 6 Guard legionnaries  Exceptionnal
- 6 legionnaries vétéran superior
- 6 legionnaries average
- 6 legionnaries regraded as skirmishing lanciariii ( to 323) average
- Total 24

Is this distribution in 3 TUGs And 1 Sug valid to match the 24 minimum  required or is a further 6 strong TUG needed , présumably the Guards considering themselves another class than Common legionnaries ?

Thanks in advance for an answer . :)

Hi Bruno,

I am sorry if it is confusing. Blame the Roman Emperors and the changes to how the legionaries fought!

Guard legionaries are not an upgrade so do NOT count towards the 24 minimum.  It would use either the word "upgrade" or "regrade" if they were.

So you need 6 more legionaries to reach the 24 total.  These could either be Average or be upgraded to Veteran (Superior) as you would not exceed the 16 maximum for veteran legionaries.

As long as the date of the army is up to 323 CE it will then be correct.

thanks

will not contest the emperor's will  for fear of ending this in the colloseum with a couple of lions  ;)
