The rules use Hastings as an exemplar of successful use of this tactic
However, the rules say that it is to all intents and purposes ineffective against infantry, and the Saxons had nothing else.

Does this mean that we can now rightfully claim that we won that battle?

It means the Saxons were so rubbish that they were defeated by a tactic that would normally be ineffective.

Or it might mean the thing called "feigned flight" in the rules is not a good reflection of historical feigned flight.

Well there is something here !

Feigned Flight can only be taken by mounted flexible CV or CM or a SUG .

First things first , the bretons do have some light  SUGs but not in the Norman army that invades england but the normas may use that capacity ..strange . The Normans could still use the breton as an ally .

Second , infantry never has mandatory charge vs mounted so Hastings is indeed impossible.

Feigned flight is costly but largely ineficient IMO

@ Jilu - 'we' are the English/British. That said, we are a mongrel people composed of many invaders. After all. the original inhabitants were all wiped out by those vicious Beaker People.  I doubt that many of us don't have any french genetic heritage. I have quite a lot so perhaps I should be claiming that 'we' won Hastings by a clever ruse, rather than by cheating.

@ Badhabum - From trying to learn the rules, I suspect that your comment on the usefulness of feigned flight is correct. There will be armies against whom it will probably be worthwhile, but only a minority.

We have been cautious about the feigned flight characteristic to avoid it distorting the game.

In a Hastings scenario game you could allow the feigned flight characteristic to allow mounted to give the infantry a forced charge.

I am happy as it is now but is it not too costly ? how often did someone use it ? if no one then you have your answer

lionheartrjc

I am planning to reduce the cost with the 2022 list changes.
