Sargonid Assyrian
« on: February 23, 2021, 05:43:03 PM »
Lead for yet another new army arrived at the weekend so decided I had to paint up a unit before getting back to the schedule  ;D

Finally plugging a period gap with a Sargonid Assyrian - yeah I know its a really popular wargamer's choice but I like the look of it. Figures from Magister Militum - who shipped it out with a very rapid turn around.

First unit is just a fairly ordinary infantry unit.

Well done NIK!
one of my favorite biblical armies;
Magister Militum biblical range is too much underated, they are great!
I hope you will publish more of them soon.

Sargonid Assyrians again. These are for the guard infantry. The absolutely huge shields dominate and also mean they can't be put in a single rank on the MeG base size - fortunately I like the look with them this way anyway  8) Chariot Miniatures 15mm.

the Chariot Miniatures sculpting is top!

Not posted anything for a while - mainly as I've been painting up additional units of things I've posted pics of already.

However, have now moved back to getting on with my Sargonid Assyrians so here is a unit of spearmen.

Chariot Miniatures range from Magister Militum.

Looking great, not that I know anything about them. But what were the shields made of? Being that huge I can't imagine them being metal or wood,

IIRC reeds are speculated along with leather.

Wood isn't out of the question though, look at the size of Republican Roman shields which were wood (and pretty heavy).

Some Skythians to assist my Assyrians. 15mm Chariot Miniatures from Magister Militum like the Assyrians - I've mixed some Persians with the Skythian figures for variety. Must confess I don't think the cavalry are as nice as the infantry - or maybe are just not as suitable for my painting technique  :o
