PBS number of cards?

Hi

need your lights about the number of cards of the PBS

I only have 4 cards for the PBS.

may I play one card, then pass for the second, play a card in the third draw ,....

or must I play all the cards I have in hand before and pass only in the last draw ( the 5th) when I have no card to play?

You can pass at any time.

Relevant bit from the rules (page 39) is - "If you have fewer than five cards then you must pass at some point and you are considered to have played a BLACK card." (my emphasis)

A neat trick if using cards is to put an Ambush card into the mix for the blank and just play it at the time.
