Building han standing army type Thing

I intend to play a ( moré or les) representation of the « standing army » plus some   « Other troops » . I understand i should completely Forget the section « volunteers army » and use exclusively on thé other two.

Would mean no unprotected crossbows  at All.
Do i understand correctly ?

The minimums for the Volunteer Army (Close fighters and Crossbowmen) apply unless the army is wholly cavalry; therefore, you cannot take a list made up of only the Standing Army and Other Troops unless the army is wholly cavalry.

Yes, it is there to help provide a bit of historical context. The professional standing army was quite small and deployed to stiffen the militia/volunteer troops, and usually only part of the standing army was deployed to any one front so were only a minority of the troops in the field.
