Triarii weapons with hastati/principes Tugs

Good Morning. I am starting a Mid Republican Roman force using Vitrix miniatures. In the Mid Republican Roman list 2513, it shows no weapon for the Triarii when amalgamated with the Hastiti and Principes Tugs. However, later there is a list for the Triarii that shows the correct weaponry (Long Spear). It also states that the Tug can be used separately or with the above mentioned Tugs. Which does one use in this circumstance? Please advise.

In a combined unit the triarii base (1 base of 5 in the unit) has no Melee Weapon skill, just the option of Melee Expert. This isn't saying they didn't have a spear (which would obviously be wrong), but is done this way to get the right effect of them being the final reserve of the unit; as base with Long Spear would give players incentives to use them in ways that bypasses the effect desired.

If they are fielded as a separate unit they get the Long Spear skill.

Thank you for your reply. As to the Triarii being the last reserve as they were historically, does this infer the base will be the last one remaining as the Hastati and Prinicipes are removed?

Afraid not, nice though that would be it would need special rules about base removal which probably are really worth the effort as base removal abstracts actual casualties and morale.
