Adding Fighting Files and Returning to Legal Formation

I'm quite bad with the rules surrounding adding new files in combat, and a situation popped up in my last game that I didn't know how to handle.
(I'm sure the answers are in the rulebook, but my dumb brain just don't get it. X|  )

I had a TUG poke their toe out of terrain, and they got hit in the corner by lancers (as below):

(That square base is just their general attached to the back there— don't mind him)

Is it legal to add an extra fighting file to the infantry's right (like so)?

(Fighting file added to frontally engage enemy supporting file, but is behind the line of my unit's front.)

In the event that file addition was legal (or that position was arrived at some other way), and the enemy cavalry was to break off, I am required to return to a legal formation. Can I do that by forming up on that trailing right-hand file (like so)?

(Ignore that the cavalry is still there in this picture; I was too lazy to ask permission to move them.)

Thank you all so much for answering these daft questions! (Even if the answer boils down to RTFM :P )

The only thing harder than trying to understand the rules is trying to write them clearly!  No need to apologise.

1. It is legal to create a new fighting file as you did.
2. Yes you do have to return to a legal formation.  You can reform on the trailing right-hand file.

So all correct.   :)
