Different point sizes - who has tried them? Thoughts?

Interested in hearing experiences with different point size games. We usually run 10,000.

Has anyone tired 8000, 8500 or 9000?   10500? Other?

These would be for tournaments rather than just casual play, so I am keen to hear of others experiences.

Thoughts?

Thanks

Competitions in the UK started at 11,000 but were then scaled back. I rather liked those games specially when you had an army with lots of expensive troops.

Originally the idea was that competitions in the UK would start at 10,000 pts but for a combination of reasons that was increased to 11,000.

On a purely personal note, I actually think games with a smaller points total are more interesting, because you have to make compromises on size and quality.  They don't always take less time because players may be more cautious with fewer troops.

Thanks. What are the smaller point sizes have you tried that still work well with the lists? 8500?

Agree it wont make a significant material impact on game length. Its more ways to change it up in competitions so its not the same min-max list builds rolling around at 10k.

It is perfectly possible to play games with 8,000 pts or fewer.  Most lists have low enough minimums to make these games perfectly possible and you don't need to spend quite as many points on generals.  These games are slightly different compared to 10,000 pts.
